Secure footing for any terrain: Boots and their functionality

As far as our feet will carry us… Adventurers don't want to be limited like that, whether in their free time or at work. Their stamina is significantly influenced by the quality and suitability of their boots.

Aspects of the weather

Those who don't often treat themselves to functional footwear will be surprised by the extensive selection at ASMC. This wide range is essential for finding the right boots for their intended use. As expected, the models are designed with materials to meet the demands of different seasons. While some models simply complement an outfit or offer protection from moisture, others prioritize warmth or comprehensive protection from the cold. Summer boots for trekking or outdoor activities ensure a healthy foot climate in high temperatures and are free of metal lacing components.

Aspects of the terrain

Beyond suitability for the elements and comfort, the right sole is crucial for a boot. It's very insightful to take a close look at the tread patterns in ASMC's product range. Reputable brands understand that every terrain has its own specific requirements. The pronounced tread pattern of a mountaineering boot must provide just as much grip on vegetation as on loose rock. On jungle expeditions, good grip is essential on slippery sections. However, the tread shouldn't clog up immediately with loose soil. For ambitious urban adventures, the boot's sole must also prove its worth during a hilly sprint on asphalt or a daring jump from a height. Especially with work boots, it's important that the sole is resistant to acids and allows for secure footing on potentially explosive surfaces. On horseback, however, smooth soles are preferable. Only then is sensitive control during a gallop possible. Gaiters perfectly complement this selection by providing additional protection against wetness and dirt, protecting the legs from injuries caused by undergrowth, and improving thermal insulation, which can be particularly beneficial in extreme weather conditions.

Expert tip: Step by step to a well-laced shoe

Tying your shoes is generally considered a simple task. However, there are a few tricks that can make running easier.
Many problems can be avoided from the outset with proper lacing technique. A common issue is the heel, which is often narrower than the heel cup. This causes the foot to slip upwards with every step. Boots with so-called "deep-pull hooks" can improve the heel fit using a pulley lacing technique: Thread the laces through both deep-pull hooks. Then, guide the opposite laces under this connection between the deep-pull hooks. Pulling both laces taut will press the foot into the heel cup. Finally, lace the shoe in a crisscross pattern as usual.
If the pressure is on the instep (the top of the foot), it is recommended to thread the laces through two eyelets on the same side at the level of the pressure point, instead of crossing them over. This allows the shoe to stretch.

Questions: Boots

Which size is the right one?

There is no general statement to be made here, as shoe sizes are not standardized.
Since your foot tends to slide forward when running downhill for extended periods, there should be enough space to prevent your foot from hitting the shoe. There should be approximately 1 cm of space between your toes and the top of your shoe.

What else should you consider when trying on clothes?

Boots should be bought in the evening, not in the morning. Feet swell during the day, so the size might be a bit tight.

It's best to wear the same socks you would wear with your shoes.
