Glow sticks provide a light source without electricity through chemiluminescence.

A light source that requires no electricity or batteries is particularly advantageous when you're on the go. Glow sticks that function as light sticks are therefore suitable for many outdoor activities.

A so-called glow stick is very easy to use.

Glow sticks come in many different (neon) colors. They are very easy to use. Simply remove the sticks from the packaging and bend them. They will then glow in the designated color. The brightness is less intense than that of a flashlight or a light bulb. Nevertheless, they are helpful for orientation in complete darkness. And children especially love these practical lights. They glow for up to twelve hours and can then simply be disposed of with regular household waste. Glow sticks are recommended for children aged eight and up.

Light sticks are available in various colors.

The glow sticks can be purchased individually in various colors, such as green, white, red, blue, purple, and yellow. The brightness is the same regardless of the color. ASMC also offers battery-operated glow sticks. While not a classic glow stick, these battery-powered versions are an excellent alternative to a flashlight because their lower brightness prevents glare. All glow sticks are suitable for various outdoor activities, including camping, military use, and hiking. They can be used independently of power sources. If the brightness is insufficient, battery-operated models should be used. However, it's essential to carry an adequate supply of batteries. Ideally, you should use both types to ensure you have options during your outdoor adventures.

Use light sticks as a light source while simultaneously providing camouflage.

There are light stick models that emit light only in the infrared range and are therefore only detectable with night vision equipment. This makes you virtually invisible if you are wearing night vision equipment and can thus use the light source. The human eye cannot perceive the wavelength of infrared rays.

How does a glow stick work?

Bending the rod breaks a small tube inside, causing the previously separated chemicals to react. This reaction is also known as peroxyoxalate chemiluminescence.

What chemicals are used to make glow sticks, and how toxic are they?

Inside a plastic casing, two chemicals are mixed or reacted when the stick is bent, triggering a chemical process that releases light. Many sticks, however, are specially filled with non-toxic ingredients, allowing them to be disposed of with regular household waste. Specifically, the sticks usually contain hydrogen peroxide in a glass tube, which breaks when bent. The surrounding liquid is typically a phenyl oxalate (oxalic acid ester) and a fluorescent dye solution (fluorophore). Trichlorophenol and dinitrophenols have also proven effective as oxalic acid esters in tests.

How long do glow sticks glow?

Depending on the model of the stick, the illumination time can be 4-12 hours.

What are light sticks also called?

There is also the very common and especially popular term among children, "knicklichter" (glow sticks). The English term "glow sticks" is another.

What special variants does ASMC offer?

They're also suitable for underwater use, which naturally opens up a wide range of possibilities. Otherwise, the colored lighting is simply fun. At Christmas, for example, you can hang the sticks on the Christmas tree, as they eliminate the hassle of candles and the associated fire hazard.
