Safety glasses are for safety purposes.

Human eyesight is irreplaceable, therefore safety glasses should never be omitted during outdoor or DIY activities that could be dangerous.

Easy use is guaranteed to protect the eyes.

There are various types of safety glasses for different applications. The purpose of these glasses is to effectively protect the eyes. They are worn like normal glasses, but there are different fastening options that have proven particularly useful in outdoor activities. For example, some safety glasses are secured with a strap at the back of the head. This is designed to ensure a secure fit. Other safety glasses have so-called sports temples, which fit more snugly around the ear than normal glasses, preventing them from falling off even during strenuous activities. The safety glasses come with a case in which they can be safely stored when not in use. The case is compact and easy to handle. It can be carried at all times and easily stored, so it is always readily available.

Safety glasses are available in various designs.

ASMC offers safety glasses in various styles and from different manufacturers, such as Uvex, Bollé, and 3M. They often feature tinted lenses for protection against sun and UV light, some even meeting the DIN EN 166 standard, offering up to 100% UV protection. Classic temple designs are available, as well as models that are secured with a wide strap at the back of the head to prevent slipping. The lenses are made of special, particularly hard and durable plastics. They are much less prone to scratching, breakage, or shattering than regular eyeglasses. The lenses come in various tints, making them suitable for different applications. They provide exceptional eye protection, not only from intense sunlight but also from dust and small flying objects like chips or splinters.

Expert tip:

Using glasses as a substitute for a magnifying glass

To use glasses, whether safety glasses or any other type, as a magnifying glass, simply fill the lens with water (or a similar liquid). This causes the light rays to refract slightly differently, allowing the glasses to function as a magnifying glass.

Questions: Safety goggles

For which tasks is wearing protective or safety glasses recommended?

In principle, safety glasses should be worn for any work that could potentially endanger the eyes. When handling alkalis, corrosive liquids, or applying wood preservative, a splash can easily get into the eye, just as a splinter can quickly break off when shredding wood with a wood chipper or carving. Therefore, eye protection is recommended. Safety glasses can also be highly advisable for sporting activities such as airsoft. For regular use with firearms, there are also so-called ballistic models, which are even more shatter-resistant.

Is special protective eyewear needed to view a solar eclipse?

Yes, and urgently. In the case of a partial or total eclipse of the sun, extremely dazzling light remains at the edges, effectively overpowering the darkness. Alternatively, there are special filter films available that can be stretched over your glasses or a camera, for example. These glasses are usually easy to recognize because they look like they're covered with aluminum foil. Under no circumstances should you look at a solar eclipse without such glasses, as you could suffer permanent eye damage. Important 1: Sunglasses are absolutely not sufficient, no matter how dark they are. Important 2: Driving with these protective glasses is not permitted.

What materials are safety glasses made of?

Most models are made of plastic, which, however, has been specially treated or manufactured to avoid breaking or shattering as would be common with normal glasses.

What's the best way to clean glasses?

You should always use special lens cleaning cloths, as all other cloths, such as tissues or napkins, can leave lint and are usually far too rough. This could leave permanent scuff marks or even deeper scratches.

What are so-called full-view glasses?

These are safety goggles that completely seal off the eye area. This is achieved through a seal that runs around the entire inner rim of the goggles. For a secure fit, the goggles are also equipped with a headband, ensuring a tight seal through gentle pressure.
