What should be considered when using dog tags?

Our dog tags (ID tags) can be easily and simply hung around the neck. The material is robust and durable, and highly resistant to corrosion. Therefore, our ID tags require no maintenance. When attaching the ID tags to a collar, ensure that the collar is properly closed and that the ID tag is securely fastened. Otherwise, there is a risk of the ID tag slipping off or being lost. A small hole is provided for attaching our ID tags, allowing for the insertion of smaller chains or ropes.

Which day or which EKM should be chosen?

The choice of dog tag naturally depends not only on personal taste but also on the circumstances. We offer a wide variety of dog tags so that they can be selected according to individual needs.

Our dog tags can be used for many different purposes. Among our dog tags are those for signal corps, army aviation, legion, armored reconnaissance, supply, artillery, and long-range reconnaissance units.

In addition to official dog tags such as the German Armed Forces dog tag, we also offer tags with custom engraving. The text can be personally selected and is then engraved in specialized workshops. This makes them ideal gifts for birthdays, Christmas, or other annual occasions.

Some of our brands are designed as bottle openers and are therefore also suitable as practical everyday items. Which version you ultimately choose depends on personal preference.

Expert tip: What do the labels on the brands mean?

There is also the special case where, for example, an emergency tag is created for epileptics, which contains the most important information, immediate measures or a caregiver's telephone number and which the person affected can conveniently wear around their neck permanently.

However, even with EKMs for "normal" use, there are certain standards to identify the inscription. For example, during the Wehrmacht era, the tags indicated which infantry regiment the wearer belonged to and what blood type they required.

Where does the term dog tag come from?

There is no complicated explanation for this, as one might assume; they are called that because they closely resemble the identification marks commonly used on dogs.

Why are two brands always used?

Since these tokens originated from military use, one token was intended for the burial of the soldier, the other for remaining with the military.

What are the tags usually attached to?

The tags are usually worn around the neck. A so-called ball chain is used for this purpose, named for its construction of many small balls. To prevent the two tags from rubbing against or clinking when moving, rubber bands can usually be purchased separately for the metal tags.
