When camping, in the military or on other outdoor missions, you should always carry a spade with you. There are small, lightweight models that can be folded up and then take up hardly any space.

A spade is very easy to use

A folding spade can be used not only in the military, but also for camping or other outdoor activities. It is small, handy and lightweight. The shaft can be folded away easily. This allows the spade to fit into a backpack or bag. Many outdoor bags offer the option of attaching the spade to the outside of the bag. This way it is always quickly at hand. Spades are used to secure tents or guy lines, or whenever holes need to be dug for other purposes. Professional models are of very high quality and feature a sharp metal blade.

Entrenching tools are practical and easy to transport

Unlike the gardening tool, a field shovel has a very short shaft. This is equipped with a practical folding mechanism and is somewhat narrower by design. In many cases, the tool can be unfolded and folded back up with just one hand. At ASMC you can get shovels in various versions and made from different steels, e.g. carbon steel or stainless steel. The digging stick. As a substitute for a spade, it makes it easier to dig holes or unearth roots in survival courses or similar situations. It should be made of hardwood, as this best withstands heavy use such as scraping in hard soil. One end can also be sharpened to make the initial digging a little easier.

What is the difference between a spade and a shovel?

The main difference really lies in the intended use. When digging up roots, trees or shrubs, the ground is usually somewhat harder or overgrown. Here, a spade is advisable for easier penetration into the soil, as it usually has a step on the top so you can drive it in forcefully with boots or garden shoes. This way you can get into firmer ground more easily. For sand or loose soil, on the other hand, a (large) shovel is advantageous because, unlike a spade, it does not taper to a point and therefore has a larger surface area. This allows you to move more material or soil at once.
